China & Hong Kong team win Global Giving Competition for second year

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

trophywithnameThe China & Hong Kong team won Thunderbird’s Global Giving Competition for the second consecutive year. The region finished out the fiscal year with an alumni giving participation rate of 27.7 percent – almost 7 percentage points higher than last year.

Second place this year went to the Southeast Asia team, followed by the U.K. team. And it was a close match, as the Southeast Asia team finished with 17.8 percent and the U.K. team finished with 17.7 percent!

Congratulations to the leading U.S. team this year –  the Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine team. The region finished with 14.4 percent. Last year’s winner in this category was the Washington D.C. Area team.

Because the China & Hong Kong team placed No. 1, all donors in that region will have their names published in the Fall issue of Thunderbird Magazine. They will also receive a personal thank you letter from Thunderbird’s president.

Thunderbird would like to thank all the chapter leaders and alumni who participated in this competition by making a gift to Thunderbird and sharing the message via social media and e-mail. We greatly appreciate your support and enthusiasm.

Thunderbird’s goal for the fiscal year was 15 percent, but the year-end figure stands at 12.7 percent. Thank you to all of our alumni who made a gift to Thunderbird this year!

China & Hong Kong team lead in final week of Global Giving Competition

Monday, June 25th, 2012

HongKong2It’s the final week of Thunderbird’s second annual Global Giving Competition and the China & Hong Kong team remains in first place for the second year in a row, with a participation rate of 27.2 percent.

Second place currently belongs to the Southeast Asia team, followed closely by the U.K. team.

While the Washington D.C. Area team led the U.S. last year, the current domestic team in the lead is the Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine team — with a participation rate of 14.2 percent.

With just five days remaining, the school stands at 12.5 percent participation. Thunderbird’s alumni participation goal is 15 percent this year. This means 776 new Annual Fund gifts are still needed to reach this goal.

The Thunderbird Annual Fund provides a vital source of assistance for scholarships, technology, curriculum development, faculty research and alumni programs and services. It allows the school to allocate funds where they are most needed and keeps the core of Thunderbird alive and well.

We hope we can count on you to make your gift this year! If you have already made a gift to Thunderbird, we thank you for your support. If you haven’t yet made a gift to Thunderbird, remember that it’s not too late to make your gift today.

The team that made the greatest number of gifts to Thunderbird last week was the Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania team. The gifts were even enough to move the group up three places to No. 8 on the leaderboard!

Other teams that made new gifts in the past week are listed below:

Second Annual Global Giving Competition kicks off

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Tbird_Annual_Fund_Horz_LgIt’s the final six weeks of the fiscal year – ending June 30 – and today we kick off our second annual Global Giving Competition.

Last year the competition heated up during the final stretch, with the Washington D.C. area team pulling ahead to lead the U.S. in giving percentage, while the Hong Kong & China region swept the competition and ended the year as No. 1. See last year’s results

This year, the winning team will be featured in the Fall edition of Thunderbird Magazine, where every donor will see his or her name published. They will also receive a personal thank you letter from Thunderbird’s president. Two runner up teams will be recognized in summary form.

Here’s how it works: In order to make a balanced competition, we’ve divided all T-bird alumni into 41 teams based on geographic location and number of alumni living in the area. Some teams are composed of a grouping of countries or U.S. states, while other teams are composed of only one country or U.S. state.

Here’s how to win: Your regional team must have the highest percentage of alumni who have made a gift to Thunderbird this fiscal year (07/01/11 -06/30/12). Note: We’re not measuring dollars raised! We’re only measuring the number of alumni in your area who have participated by giving a gift – of any size.
Help your team win by re-tweeting contest updates, getting together at First Tuesdays, posting messages to your Facebook page and motivating T-birds in your area to make a gift to Thunderbird. Ultimately it’s about making Thunderbird an even better school.

We’ll be reaching out and connecting with Alumni Chapter Leaders individually for each of the 41 teams, and we encourage collaboration! Each week, we will update the alumni community on the status of the contest, which ends June 30, 2012.

Good luck T-birds and stay tuned! We will announce the current numbers each week. Check out the leaderboard below to see where your team stands.

Southeast Asia team leaps into second place

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

timerWith less than two days remaining in Thunderbird’s first ever Global Giving Competition, the Southeast Asia team just knocked the U.K. team out of a long run in second place.

Still in first place is the China & Hong Kong team with 19.3 percent alumni participation. The Southeast Asia team is now in second place with 17.3 percent and the U.K. team is a close third with 17.1 percent.

As gifts come in from around the globe, the competition is close. Who will place in the final top three?

In the U.S., the Washington D.C. Area team remains in first, with the Indiana and Michigan team coming close to a tie.

Thunderbird’s current participation figure stands at 13.8 percent. The goal for the fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. is 17 percent. We need your help and support. Please make your gift today.

And to everyone else who has helped in any way – great or small – we thank you!

If you’ve already made your gift, please Tweet this message, e-mail it, post it on your Facebook pages and encourage T-birds on your team to support Thunderbird.

The winning team in this competition will be featured in the Fall edition of Thunderbird Magazine and will see their names published. They will also receive a personal thank you letter from President Dr. Cabrera and will be recognized during the 11-11-11 events. Two runner up teams will be recognized in summary form.
