The selection process for the January 2013 class of Project Artemis fellows is underway. You can enable an unsung heroine such as Fatema to expand her business acumen at the world’s #1 school for international business. Your gift defrays costs for a fellow in the following manner:

$50 = One day of meals
$100 = One cultural experience day
$200 = Health care and insurance costs
$500 = Ground transportation during program
$1,000 = Lodging for duration of program
$3,000 = Round trip airfare from Kabul, Aghanistan to Phoenix, AZ

President Ángel Cabrera: We need your support

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

cabreraPost by Ángel Cabreracampaign Thunderbird

As we reach the end of the fiscal year, I am inspired more than ever by the leadership, energy and success displayed by our global community of alumni who continue to make a significant and lasting impact in our world economy.

Some of you are leading businesses and facing increasingly complex management decisions. Others are navigating a complicated global landscape through your work in various organizations. And many are facing unique challenges as entrepreneurs seeking to create sustainable businesses in an increasingly inter-connected world.

The rapid spread of globalization has created a global economy in which the fortunes of individuals, businesses and societies are inextricably linked. And never before has that been more apparent than in the past year when we witnessed the global impact of natural disasters, instability in our financial markets and political unrest in Middle East.

Thunderbird, by virtue of its heritage, expertise, and entrepreneurial vision, is uniquely positioned to meet the growing need for global leaders, like you, who can manage in this complex, inter-connected global environment. Now more than ever, the world needs T-birds.

In order to leverage our unique strengths, deliver on our mission and provide the best global management education in the world to the next generation of global leaders, we need your support.

I would first like to thank those alumni who have supported our school. Your gifts – large and small – have provided support for scholarships, internships, classrooms, technology, faculty and so much more. Investments in these activities help Thunderbird deliver on its unique mission and remain the No. 1 School of Global Business in the world.

Our world-class faculty is doing amazing work inside and outside of the classroom as highly-published thought leaders on global business issues and trends and as dedicated instructors who also provide innovative and transformational learning experiences for our students.

One such program is the Thunderbird Emerging Markets Laboratory (TEM Lab) which matches student consultants with business enterprises in emerging markets. This type of real time, practical learning sets Thunderbird apart.

Supportive alumni strengthen the T-bird brand, energize our dedicated faculty and staff, inspire major donors and foundations to invest in Thunderbird, and show current students that alumni care about their careers and success in the world.

Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador move ahead in Global Giving Competition

Friday, May 13th, 2011

bogotaThe Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador team had the greatest percentage increase in new gifts this week in Thunderbird’s first annual Global Giving Competition. Way to go South America!

The team moved from 12.6 percent to 13.1 percent participation since last week, but it wasn’t enough to leap ahead of the China & Hong Kong team, which is leading the way with 17 percent participation. U.K. did not bring in any new gifts last week, but still held its ground in second place. The Southeast Asia team is still in third place.

Thunderbird’s current participation figure stands at 11.8 percent. One week ago, our figure was 11.6 percent. The goal for the fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2011, is 17 percent. We can get there, but we need your help!
Please Tweet this message, e-mail it, post it on your Facebook pages and encourage T-birds on your team to support Thunderbird.

Some interesting developments in the competition this week:

-          The Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador team sneaked slightly ahead of France

-          Washington State is now tied with New Jersey as the top U.S. team

-          Canada moved up from 10.9 to 11.3 percent participation.

Many teams did not move up at all this week. Lets show our support for Thunderbird this week, and lets see the numbers rise by making a gift here! Thank you to all T-birds who made a gift to Thunderbird this week and this fiscal year.

The winning team will be featured in the Fall edition of Thunderbird Magazine and will see their names published. They will also receive a personal thank you letter from President Dr. Cabrera and will be recognized during the 11-11-11 Global Celebration. Two runner up teams will be recognized in summary form.

Global Giving Competition kicks off

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

It’s the final two months of Campaign Thunderbird and in the spirit of the circle givingfriendly rivalry that is built during Foundations, we thought we’d make things fun – with a global fundraising competition, a winner and prizes!

Join us today as we kick of Thunderbird’s first ever Global Giving Competition.

The winning team will be featured in the Fall edition of Thunderbird magazine and will see their names published. They will also receive a personal thank you letter from President Dr. Cabrera and will be recognized during the 11-11-11 Global Celebration. Two runner up teams will be recognized in summary form.

Here’s how it works: In order to make a balanced competition, we’ve divided all T-bird alumni into 42 teams based on geographic location and number of alumni living in the area. Some teams are composed of a grouping of countries or U.S. states, while other teams are composed of only one country or U.S. state.

Here’s how to win: Your regional team must have the highest percentage of alumni who have made a gift to Thunderbird this fiscal year (07/01/10 -06/30/11). Note: We’re not measuring dollars raised! We’re only measuring the number of alumni in your area who have participated by giving a gift. Help your team win by re-tweeting contest updates, getting together at First Tuesdays, posting messages to your Facebook page and motivating T-birds in your area to make a gift to Thunderbird. Ultimately it’s about making Thunderbird an even better school.

We’ll be reaching out and connecting Alumni chapter leaders individually for each of the 42 teams, and we encourage collaboration! Each week, we will update the alumni community on the status of the contest, which ends June 30, 2011.

Good luck T-birds and stay tuned! We will be announcing the current numbers each week.

Monday, April 25th, 2011

This Mother’s Day honor your mother – or any woman who has inspired you – with a global tribute card. Empower a woman from Afghanistan (see Fatema’s story) or other emerging country to develop her own business and create a better life for her and her family.

We can train a Project Artemis fellow for approximately $15,000. The returns – livelihood and security – are incalculable. Your investment of $25, $50, $100 or more will not just help one woman entrepreneur from Afghanistan or other developing country; it will yield sustainable prosperity for future generations.

Ways to Give:

  • By phone, (M-F; 8a-5p Arizona) at 602 978-7309 or 800 457-6981  toll-free (US only)
  • Online – please make sure to enter the name of the honoree and her address in the appropriate text boxes.

Donations must be made by Tuesday, May 3, in order to provide adequate time to reach US addresses by May 8 (Mother’s Day, USA). On-time delivery cannot be guaranteed. We will send to international addresses as well.

Give a gift today and the inspirational woman of your choice will receive a personalized card that recognizes your gift in her honor.

Make one small introduction for one great impact

Friday, January 21st, 2011

RudolphHi, my name is Chris Rudolph and I am new to the staff at Thunderbird.  My exciting new role is the Corporation and Foundation Gift Officer.  In my capacity I will be making connections and building partnerships with corporations and foundations around the world and raising money in support of Thunderbird and all of its programs.  I will be leveraging our campus partnerships with Corporate Learning, the Career Management Center, the Centers of Excellence and many others to optimize our corporate and foundation relationships.  To do this effectively we need your help.

You can help by introducing us to your connections.  To which corporations and foundations around the world could you help us open a door and start to build a relationship?  Who do you, your family, friends, and colleagues know that could help?  If you have family, friends or colleagues that could help, reach out to them and share your personal story about Thunderbird to build their excitement.

Please facilitate an introduction with your corporate and foundation connections so we can further share the amazing Thunderbird story.  We can also then compare missions and priorities and look for strong areas of intersection and partnership between your connection’s organizations and the school.

Please reach out to me.  If you could help by making a warm hand-off, setting up a preliminary call, or facilitating a meeting, that would be outstanding.   I appreciate your help.  Please contact me with any questions.  I look forward to hearing from you, getting to know you, and partnering with your connections.

Publication recognizes Thunderbird call center

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

philanthropyThe recent issue of the magazine “Advancing Philanthropy” has recognized Thunderbird and its call center, led by Assistant Director, Annual Giving Keith Kerber for last year’s 24-hour phonathon to raise money for the Tower Restoration Project. The magazine highlights how Kerber’s team overcame obstacles such as reaching alumni who are spread out around the world and finding student callers who could speak multiple languages. “The innovative event found a way to reach diverse alumni in nearly every part of the globe. It also introduced students to a way to participate in philanthropy while connecting with alumni over a common point of interest,” the article said. Check out one version of the article here.
