Burmese Refugees: Letters from the Thai-Burma Border

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Thomas RhodenThe misrule of the Burmese military junta continues to be the main catalyst of refugees in Southeast Asia today. In this collection of letters, learn about the true stories of people who have fled from that regime. All of the accounts are written by the refugees themselves and explain how they became asylum seekers, what life is like in the camps, and what they envision for their future. These stories document persons from the 8888 generation, the 2007 Saffron Revolution, and various ethnic struggles. This book contains the narratives of thirty diverse individuals — all of them united by the simple desire to have a more representative government in their homeland.

The Origins of Human Violence!

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Lafayette- ViolenceThe thesis of this book is that despite the ages that have passed since homo sapiens developed the ability to think and behave in ways that transcended our animal origins-and in remarkable ways distinguished us from other primates-male humans in particular have continued to exhibit animalistic behavior, and today remain fixated on violence-not only toward other humans but also toward animals, other species of life, and the Earth itself. The author postulates that many human males are prone to engage in violence because of the attempts by men to establish religious controls and high standards for human behavior that to an astonishing degree had the opposite effect. The author says the reason for this dichotomy is that these religious-inspired attempts were based on the misunderstanding, misuse and abuse of human sexuality combined with the fundamental ignorance and willful stupidity of human males. He explains why and how this incredible situation developed and continues today, and includes some extraordinary recommendations.

Having seen that the “possessive individualism” of the consumer society leads to the dangerous depletion of natural resources, the members of Generation Participation see life as a network. They realize that material satisfaction alone won’t meet their expectations.
