Why management needs a code of conduct

YGL

BusinessWeek  runs this week an op-ed piece I wrote (Why Management Needs a Code of Conduct) summarizing the recent efforts to establish a code of conduct for business managers.

Meanwhile the Forum of Young Global Leaders has created a website to register individual endorsements (see GlobalBusinessOath.org).  This adds to the MBA Oath initiative, created by MBA students and specifically targeting MBA graduates.

Keith Simon commented on your note “Why management needs a code of conduct”:

“Management, disconnected from morality and ethics is nothing more than the arbitary and capricious unchecked will of tyrants. No one can long ignore the larger good.”

Great posting and article on Business Week Online – I could not agree with you more Angel. Many years ago I was part of the Institute of Management Accountants and I believe they are a Code of Conduct that would largely meet the need, perhaps with some minor revisions. Included various examples of ethical behavior, and also included under integrity the need to maintain one’s level of education, similar to medical profession need to “stay current” on latest findings/research.
