In my experience, quality is highest at maximum efficiency. When managing a large healthcare service, there was frequently a tipping point where too much, or the wrong mix of people and resources could leave patients wanting. In most business literature I believe similar outcomes have been demonstrated. Having been in private, private-for-profit, and public education, the similarities to healthcare as they relate to the "products" offered are strikingly similar (business of people, tangible and intangible services, quantitative and qualitative outcomes, etc). The accreditation process, however, comes much more frequently with rather severe consequences for those institutions who are not always looking for service and safety gaps. The other lesson for me was that escalating costs does not result in improved quality.

Dr Cabrera,

Five days back in London and I long for the desert again! Yes, it really was a very special event that honestly exceeded my expectations, and I'm very glad I made the trip. Hope to repeat it again, and looking forward to Berlin!

Muchas gracias para todos,

The Mission Statement from 1946 is prophetic. I find it amazing that Lieutenant General Yount, having returned from WWII a conquering hero, understood the intrinsic need for mutual respect and empathy in order for mankind to evolve as a community. One of my favorite quotes is from Ralph Waldo Emerson “Genius always finds itself a century too early”. I feel this is most appropriate for Lieutenant General Yount and Thunderbird.

I had written this about 2011 being the year of Equality, in about August 2010. After all, this is what our generations will se in terms of dates as straight and equal "11.11.11". I am seeing the current manifestations as a call for equality. I want to believe we are heading to equality, where wealth and responsibility is shared more equally within the countries. My scope of thought is exclusively in the social level. (this is my personal view)
I am delighted institutions of a high sphere of education are addressing this issue; it will certainly help it through and to achieve a better outcome for all.

Interesting information. I have to wonder though if part of the issue with the decrease in both H1Bs and applications to U.S. schools by foreign students has something to do with the preception of the U.S. as a whole.

Not only has the discourse in Congress been very negative toward immigrants, but maybe there is also a perception out there that the U.S. is a country in decline. One example of this trend is India. While there are still plenty of students at places like Georgia Tech or MIT for engineering degrees, it is now seen as common knowledge that those students are there because they were unable to secure a spot at the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology).

If that is the case, it will become increasingly harder for the U.S. to compete for the best and brightest students, unless this trend is reversed.
